Showtime!

It's our penultimate show of the season this week. Kirky caught up with Paul Tisdale after the Hartlepool game and asked the one question everyone else was afraid to ask.... the one about the substitutions.

We are also joined by some media types, namely Andrew Barge (BBC Radio Devon) & Joe Hellier (Exeter FM) who give us their views of the season and why they're fans.

There's a cowshed looking forward to our final game of the season too. So, tune in for quite possibly the tensest show we've ever done!

Enjoy, UTC.

Tis tips United for the top 6

Paul Tisdale underlined the size of the task facing his Exeter City side this weekend by predicting that Colchester United will finish in the League One play-off places.
The U’s changed managers just three weeks into the campaign when Aidy Boothroyd took over after Paul Lambert left to manage Norwich City.
And since then they have been beaten just once in the league — a 2-1 defeat at Millwall at the end of October. Read more...... [Visit Site]

Watson pleads for a chance

Exeter City striker Ben Watson says he is desperate for the chance to transfer his prolific goalscoring form from the reserves into the first team.
The diminutive hitman notched his seventh goal in six games for the second string this season when he found the net in the 1-1 draw with Plymouth Argyle at Home Park yesterday.
But despite that record, Watson is yet to feature for the Grecians’ first team so far this term, and so is praying manager Paul Tisdale has taken note of his blistering form in the Totesport.com Combination Wales & West Division.
Keep the faith

Goalkeeper Andy Marriott says there is no need to panic after Exeter City’s second successive big away defeat.
The Grecians were beaten 3-0 at Walsall on Saturday following on from their 4-0 drubbing at Huddersfield Town the previous weekend, to leave them fifth from bottom of Coca-Cola League One after 13 games.
But Marriott believes City’s performance at the Banks Stadium was a massive improvement on their showing in Yorkshire seven days before.
And the glovesman says he is certain the Grecians will start to pick up plenty of points this term if they continue to play in the same manner. Read more...... [Visit Site]

Harley tells City to believe

Yan Harley says Exeter City need to show more belief after they slipped to a narrow 2-1 defeat at high-flying Charlton Athletic on Saturday.
After trailing to Nicky Bailey’s 41st minute opener, City were the better side after the break but lacked the cutting edge to break down the Addicks.
Oscar Jansson’s clanger gifted Izale McLeod the home side’s second of the afternoon before Bertie Cozic pulled one back in the 90th minute.
Harley insists that City are good enough to match the league’s top sides, but says they need to show more of a killer instinct in the final third. Read more...... [Visit Site]

Perryman: Draw was right result

Exeter City director of football Steve Perryman admits last night’s 1-1 draw with Yeovil Town at St James’s Park was a fair result.
The Grecians were handed a first half lead when Stefan Stam put through his own net following a Liam Sercombe cross.
But Yeovil got better as the game went on and grabbed a superb equaliser thanks to Ryan Mason’s 30-yard thunderbolt.
It leaves the Grecians still searching for their first win after two draws and a defeat from their first three games in Coca-Cola League One.
Perryman said: “We were bright in the first half and I thought we had the initiative. Okay, we were fortunate with the way the goal went in but it came off the back of our good play where we got in behind them down their left side.
“But we didn’t quite have the quality when we got into good areas.
“I am not sure they changed too much in the second half but they definitely upped their tempo and maybe there were some words exchanged at half-time. We couldn’t quite live with their game in the second half and we struggled. We just looked a bit tired and it was coming back at us too often. In the end a draw was a fair result.”
Yeovil manager Terry Skiverton was delighted to have secured a point, although he took a swipe at his side for an abject first half display.
“I was really upset about the first half,” he said. “But in the second half we showed all the stuff I knew we had.
“We have got character in this side and we showed that we have got guts and determination.
“I am really pleased with the second half performance but if we don’t go one goal behind and don’t play like that in the first half then we might come away with a one goal victory.
“We definitely need to have a chat about the way we start games.”... [Visit Site]

Injuries open the door for young striker

Teenaged striker James Norwood aims to take full advantage of the striker crisis at Exeter City.
The Grecians go into tonight’s Carling Cup clash against Queens Park Rangers at St James’s Park with just three strikers available.
Adam Stansfield and Ben Watson are both definitely sidelined, Richard Logan is a serious injury doubt, while Barry Corr has received a three-match suspension after getting sent off in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Leeds United.
It means City have got just three available strikers in the shape of Craig McAllister, Marcus Stewart and Norwood.
And Norwood hopes to get another run-out after a bright display off the bench in the season opener at Elland Road.
“It was brilliant to play on Saturday and there are not too many better places to make your debut,” said the 19-year-old.
“Leeds were in the semi-final of the Champions League not so long ago and to run out in front of 27,000 fans — I couldn’t have asked for much more.
“Maybe I should have scored at the end and that would have made it a dream.
“I wasn’t expecting to play and I was surprised when I was named on the bench.
“Then in the second half the manager said ‘get ready you are on’.
“I preferred that because it didn’t give me a chance to get nervous. But I stuck Liam Sercombe’s shirt on by mistake and they grabbed me back so I could change it. So it wasn’t a great start but I loved it.”
Norwood has welcomed the new rule allowing clubs to name seven substitutes, stating that it gives youngsters a chance to stake a claim.
And he has told City manager Paul Tisdale he is ready to make an impact in tonight’s first round encounter with the Championship side.
“I would love to be involved against QPR. Just to be in the squad would be a real bonus and I am ready if I am called upon.
“But if Logie (Richard Logan) is fit, he is an experienced striker whereas I am still learning my trade.
“The seven substitute rule gives me more of a chance and it is a real boost for the young players in the squad.
“Saturday was a great start for me and my aim is to keep pushing for a first team place.”
Norwood’s elevation from turning out for Eastbourne Town to sealing a one-year deal with League One Exeter City is down to John Yems.
City’s former assistant manager spotted the youngster playing for the England Schools side and he was invited for a trial.
Norwood’s arrival at St James’s Park was bankrolled by the 19/31 Fund, a new scheme run by exiled supporters which encourages fans to dip into their pockets to boost Tisdale’s playing budget.
But his first taste of the realities of professional football came in a pre-season friendly at Ilfracombe. He explained: “I bought a hot dog and a mars bar before the game, forgetting I was at a professional club.
“I am still getting slated about it and Rob Edwards has given me a lot flack about it. But it is all for the right reasons.
“I am also getting stick about my pink boots. But I am going to ring up Nike and get a few more pairs — stick to what you know.
“But seriously, I am really enjoying it here and already it has a been a really good learning curve for me.
“The training took its toll at the start. I had a little problem with my hip but it is getting better now.
“It is just surreal training with players who have been in the game for so long.
“Twelve months ago I was turning out for Eastbourne Town under-18s against Worthing. Now I am getting a run-out at Elland Road.”
Exeter City have advised fans who have yet to pick up their season tickets that tonight is the last chance to do so.
Fans can collect their tickets from the Grecians Centre between 4.30 and 7.15pm.
After that season tickets will be sent out first class on Wednesday so they arrive before the Norwich match, but the club are asking fans to try and pick them up tonight.... [Visit Site]
